Economic issues are at the heart of the concerns of the French, particularly in a budgetary context of immense debt. On Sunday, September 22, Bruno Le Maire gave up his place to Antoine Armand as Minister of the Economy.
After more than 7 years at the head of the Ministry of Economy, Bruno Le Maire has left his position. He is handing over the management of Bercy to Antoine Armand, aged 33. “You will not find in a drawer of my office some miracle recipe to restore our public accounts”, warned the former Minister of Economy. The idea of increasing taxes is gaining momentum within the government, because the public accounts are in deficit. The deficit could reach 6.2% of GDP next year.
On Sunday, September 22, the new Minister of the Economy was clear in an interview with the JDD: “In the budgetary context, automatically excluding certain exceptional and targeted levies would not be responsible”he said. One of his priorities will be the budget vote, which will happen quickly. Indeed, the government will have to present the budget on October 9 to the National Assembly. This is one of the riskiest issues for the new government team.
