More than 40,000 Ukrainian refugees have been welcomed to France as of Wednesday April 13. How are these women and children adjusting to their new lives? Report in Normandy.
Beatrice Girodsommelier in Paris, hosted a Ukrainian family in their second home in Mauves-sur-Huisne (adorns). Three generations of women rub shoulders there: Valentina, the grandmother, Tamara, 59, and her stepdaughter Anastasia, 31. To help them, Béatrice put her work on hold, and left Paris for several days. “I prefer to take care of them, of the administration, that they feel good”she says. “She does everything for us, and it’s beautiful”rejoices Anastasia.
The three male family members remained in Kyiv, Ukraine. They communicate with each other by telephone. Valentina, 82, does not catch the eye of Ukrainian television. For the former engineer, who worked for Soviet submarines, the violent memories of childhood resurface. “I’m reliving the whole of World War II.”she says. As for Anastasia, cshe found her first job. The lawyer and professor of law improvises herself as the assistant of a French chef, and judges the experience “incredible”.
