The new law on medical assistance in dying will have to wait

They will have run out of time. Parliamentarians on Thursday abandoned the bill expanding access to medical assistance in dying, while ensuring that they would work on it after the elections.

Health Minister Christian Dubé agreed “after discussions” with the opposition that it was too late to change the law.

Bill 38 reforming the End-of-Life Care Act was tabled at the end of May. There were then two weeks left in the parliamentary session — and the parliamentary session.
