The next-generation Ford Ranger is already on sale elsewhere in the world, but is slow to hit the North American market. It is rather expected from us in the second half of 2023 as a 2024 model.
The website Ranger6G would have obtained the confirmation from sources within the company that the production of this new Ranger at the plant in Wayne, Michigan, will begin on July 10 and not in May as previous information suggested. Deliveries to Canada and the United States would therefore begin in August or September.
This somewhat later release may be the reason Ford has yet to unveil the North American Ranger, which will have slightly different specs and equipment than the version available overseas.
Always according to what reports Ranger6G, reservations will begin in the spring – no doubt within seconds of the unveiling in question. The New York Auto Show is April 7-16, so it might be a good time, but Ford is likely to hold a separate event instead, like it did with the 2024 Mustang in Detroit in last September.
What do we know about the 2024 Ford Ranger?
Development of the new Ranger was led by Ford’s Australian division, but with support from teams of designers and engineers around the globe. It will be the toughest and most capable Ranger in history.
The T6 chassis has been improved, providing a 50mm gain in wheelbase and track. The volume of the box is thereby improved by the fact, enough to transport sheets of plywood or flat pallets.
In the cabin, the level of refinement and technology goes up several notches with more upscale materials and especially a vertical touch screen powered by Ford’s SYNC 4 infotainment system. Fully digital instrumentation resides behind the steering wheel. There are also fewer physical buttons on the central interface.
The 2.3-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost that we know will be back along with the 10-speed automatic transmission, which benefits from an update. It remains to be seen whether power and torque will be increased and by how much.
The big news for us will be the addition of the Ranger Raptor, with a reinforced chassis and a completely revised suspension, but above all a 3-litre EcoBoost V6 that generates 392 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. It will also have four active exhaust modes, seven drive modes and off-road cruise control called Trail Control.
