The new district of Bercy-Charenton, reviewed and corrected, should see the light of day by 2030

This is the story of an old Parisian sea serpent whose first studies date back to the mid-2000s. It is also the story of one of the last wastelands to be developed in Paris. The municipality presented its project for the new district of Bercy-Charenton, in the 12th arrondissement. It has been reviewed and corrected to be less dense and greener. It should see the light of day by 2030.

A park of at least three hectares

There will be no high-rise buildings, and the buildings will not exceed more than 50 m in height, explained the Parisian municipality. The built area has also been revised downwards, almost halved, from 500,000 m2 to 230,000 m2. Less construction, for more greenery, sincea park of at least three hectares will take place in the heart of the future district. This is what Emmanuel Grégoire said during a press conference at the Town Hall. Anne Hidalgo’s right-hand man also indicated the desire to preserve railway heritage, and in particular the former freight station which is now disused.

3,500 new inhabitants

Finally, the project does not plan to accommodate 9,000 inhabitants as planned in 2018, but only 3,500. Nearly 6,000m2 of shops will also be created, 20% of which at reduced rents. The future district should also include 12,000m2 of public facilities (nurseries, schools, a swimming pool and other sports facilities). However, this remains to be refined through consultation and environmental studies, said the town hall of Paris.

A deficit estimated at 150 million euros

The work could start “at best” in 2025 for delivery expected between 2028 and 2030. The final objective is to open up an area between the rails leading to the Lyon and Bercy stations, the disused small belt, the ring road and the Seine. , but also the neighboring town of Charenton-le-Pont (Val-de-Marne). Reviewed and corrected, the project should cost the city less, with an estimated deficit of 150 million euros against 200 million initially.
