The night will be short for fans of the Dashing Cowboys: the group announced at 6 p.m. Wednesday that its new album, recorded before the death of its singer Karl Tremblay, will be available from midnight.
The release of the record is not a surprise as such since its existence was not a secret. The group had even published photos of certain recording sessions, notably those which took place at the homes of Marie-Annick Lépine and Karl Tremblay, the latter being very affected by the cancer which eventually took his life.
The release date of this album was, however, kept secret. Since Marie-Annick Lépine had hinted this winter that it would probably be released in April, the rumor intensified in recent days. Albums are generally released on Fridays and there is only one Friday left in April…
The album is called Royal Publike the show created in collaboration with the circus troupe Les 7 Fingers de la Main a few weeks after the death of Karl Tremblay, which occurred on November 15, following prostate cancer discovered in January 2020.
At the time of writing, French fans of the Cowboys Fringants already had access to the disc due to the time difference. One of them said on a fan page of the group that the singer’s voice was present on 9 of the tracks on the record, which The Press could not confirm.
Some of the songs created for the show Royal Pub are there, but the album seems essentially composed of new material, according to the meager information we had access to at the time of publishing these lines. The show will be presented again in May in Trois-Rivières and will pass through Quebec before traveling to different cities in the province between now and the end of the year.
