The new coach of the Volley-Ball Pays Viennois club, located in Saint-Romain-en-Gal in the Rhône, has been indicted for “rape and sexual assault on a minor”, “acts of torture and barbarity”, reports France Bleu Isère on Friday September 14.
The complaint was filed in mid-July in Alsace, according to the Mulhouse prosecutor’s office, confirming information from the Dauphiné Libéré. A volleyball player, now 18, accuses her former coach of raping her several times between the ages of 13 and 17. She was playing at the time in Romans-sur-Isère in the Drôme. According to the victim, the rapes took place during training sessions, competitions, but also while traveling to and from matches, the prosecutor’s office said.
The accused coach, aged 37, arrived at the Vienne volleyball club, located in Saint-Romain-en-Gal, this summer. He had just started training with the professional players two weeks ago. The club manager and the players were informed of the suspect’s police custody on Tuesday.
The club’s president, Christian Garaix, was questioned by investigators. A player from the club, who played two years ago in Romans-sur-Isère, was also questioned. The players are continuing their training. “They are great, because I know that inside it works a lot.
