The current fifth economic power in the world, India, could reach second position in less than half a century. Large French groups prosper there, but smaller companies have also chosen to set up there, not without difficulties.
French bakery chain Paul has just opened its fourth restaurant in India, in New Delhi’s busiest shopping mall. He already has his regulars. “I come twice a week”, assures a customer. With a growing middle class and increasing purchasing power, India has become a priority for the French group in recent years.
“The codes are not the same”
More than 1,000 French companies are now established in the region, and employ 400,000 people, particularly in aeronautics, a sector which is exploding. Suresh Latchoumanassamy, a French man of Indian origin, is traveling in the country, to sign new contracts for his subcontracting company, Segula. He has a meeting with one of the largest companies in the country, which notably designs airports.
