Le 13 Heures takes you across Europe to discover the best restaurants with your feet in the water. Direction the south of the Netherlands, in the Sea of Zeeland, Wednesday August 24, to taste oysters, picked up just nearby.
Translucent water and dozens of oyster beds on the horizon. No doubt, the paradise of lovers of this mollusk is located on the coast of Zeeland, in the south of the Netherlands. A former fisherman’s hut, which was just a small restaurant ten years ago, has become an institution for Dutch and Belgians alike. They serve platters of seafood, some larger than oysters. “It’s beautiful,” rejoices a customer. “I just come for that, for the oysters, the best in the Netherlands”exclaims a man seated in the middle of tasting.
The oysters are prepared there by a master in the field, eight times champion of the Netherlands for opening oysters and ninth in the world ranking. They are served there as naturally as possible in most cases even if there are recipes where they are heated. Seafood straight from the parks of the boss, who owns five in the sea of Zeeland. At 35, this oyster farmer wanted to enhance his family heritage passed down for four generations through the restaurant. And even if its oysters are served in the greatest restaurants in the country, nothing beats a tasting with a view of the sea.
