The Nelligan and Albertine operas in five times recorded

The two recordings based on works by writer and playwright Michel Tremblay will be released in physical and digital format in November, ATMA Classique has announced.

opera Nelligancreated in 1990 by Michel Tremblay and the late André Gagnon, has been revived barely twice since its creation (in 2010, then in 2020).

The recorded version is that of January 2020, at the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde. With the voices of tenor Marc Hervieux in the title role of Émile Nelligan, baritone Dominique Côté in the role of young Nelligan, Kathleen Fortin in that of her mother, and Frayne McCarthy in that of her father, among others. The album will be released on November 18.

Albertine in five times, the opera is newer. It was recorded at the Domaine Forget concert hall in Charlevoix, following its premiere at the Rideau Vert last September. The music was composed by Catherine Major.

The roles of Albertine, at different ages, had been assigned to Catherine St-Arnaud (30 years old), Florence Bourget (40 years old), Chantal Dionne (50 years old), Monique Pagé (60 years old) and Chantal Lambert (70 years old) . The album will be released on November 25.
