New Democrat MPs were discussing this possible agreement on Monday evening. A source within that party told The Press that this pact, the existence of which was first revealed by CBC, seemed promising.

In the conservative camp, we did not wait to have the details before reacting. “The NDP-Liberal coalition is nothing less than a callous attempt by Trudeau to stay in power,” the Conservative Party of Canada said in a statement Monday night. Canadians did not vote for an NDP government. This is nothing but backroom socialism. Trudeau polarizes politics because he likes it. »

Party leadership aspirant Pierre Poilievre also reacted swiftly, posting a video on social media denouncing this marriage between the “socialists” of the NPD and the Liberal Party.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office declined to comment on Monday evening.

Last November, the leader of the NDP, Jagmeet Singh, closed the door to a coalition with the Liberals, without refusing the possibility of a collaboration agreement. He had also insisted on the fact that he had “no desire” to form a coalition with the Liberals. “That’s a firm no,” he said.
