David Suzuki isn’t sad to step down as host of the CBC science show, The Nature of Things.
The 87-year-old Suzuki says the time has come to leave the show he created 44 years ago. His last animation will be broadcast on Friday evening (April 7).
He laments that some of the topics he covered in the show’s early years, such as climate change and forest preservation, are still relevant today.
According to him, governments must make decisions based on more than economics or science alone. Authorities must learn to examine the wider effects of the policies or projects they are advocating.
Mr. Suzuki believes that scientists have a responsibility to talk about the results of their research.
He says his only regret is not being more vocal.
The show The Nature of Things will now be led by two people.
