The National School of Furniture and Cabinetmaking of Montreal will close its doors in 2027

The National School of Furniture and Cabinetmaking (ENME) will stop welcoming new students to Montreal after fall 2024 with a view to closing permanently in 2027. All courses will be held in Victoriaville in the future.

The Victoriaville CEGEP claims to have tried for four years to implement measures to regain “sound financial management” and “intensively”. However, according to an official communication from the establishment dated Monday, “none of them gave the hoped-for results”.

“This is an important page in the history of the CEGEP which is being turned and it is a difficult decision to make,” indicated the general director of the CEGEP, Denis Deschamps. “We are aware of the impacts that this decision will have in several respects, particularly for the staff members of the Montreal campus who have developed a strong sense of belonging there. »

Since its creation in 1965, ENME has trained dozens of students per year in cabinetmaking, upholstery and furniture finishing. The Montreal campus is located on Boulevard de Lorimier, at the intersection of Rue Masson.

More details will follow.
