The National Rally has decided to cut ties with its German ally, the AfD. The head of the European list of this far-right party estimated that a Nazi was not necessarily a criminal.
The head of the list for the AfD in Germany was a troublesome ally for the National Rally. He is now excluded from meetings, after a slip-up. He argued that not all SS men were criminals. A statement which caused an outcry in Germany and France. The RN no longer wants to sit with the AfD in the European Parliament. A divorce after several scandals, including a espionage affair and a secret meeting held at the end of 2023 to plan the expulsion of Germans of foreign origin.
What allies for the RN?
So, who will the party’s allies be? Marine Le Pen was in a meeting last Saturday with the European far right. Among these parties, that of the Italian Georgia Meloni, with whom the RN does not get along. But to avoid being isolated, the RN will have to find new alliances.
