A definitive lifting of this obligation “would have dangerous consequences”, had estimated earlier the Minister of Health, François Braun.

Change in policy on vaccinating caregivers against coronavirus. The National Assembly adopted, Thursday, May 4, a bill from the communist group providing the repeal of the obligation to vaccinate against Covid-19, rather than its simple suspension. The government was opposed to such a definitive measure, preferring the suspension of this vaccination obligation by decree. A repeal “would have dangerous consequences” And “would weaken our ability to respond”had estimated the Minister of Health, François Braun.

At the end of 2021, France had imposed a vaccination obligation on nearly 2.7 million people, caregivers but also staff in hospitals and retirement homes, paramedics, home helpers and even firefighters. A few thousand people were suspended from their duties after refusing this vaccination obligation, a very small proportion in view of the total workforce.

In March, the Ministry of Health estimated, for example, that “around 0.3%” hospital workers had been suspended for this reason. The reinstatement of suspended staff had become a political battle horse, particularly for the National Rally and La France insoumise.
