At the end of the debate on the pension reform at the Palais Bourbon, the deputies could not go as far as article 7, providing for the passage of the legal age of departure to 64 years. These two weeks will leave their mark as the fractures have appeared in broad daylight within the groups themselves.

What will remain of these nine days of debate on the pension reform project? Confusion on the merits and for the parties, widening fractures. At LR, deputy Aurélien Pradié is no longer number two in his party, Saturday February 18, his fault, having fought over long careers. “The Minister gave a complementary answer today, I personally think it goes in the right direction”said Eric Ciotti on the issue.

Fracture within the Nupes

On the Nupes side, the tensions are also palpable. Erecting a wall of amendments to curb the debate, as Jean-Luc Mélenchon wanted, is seen as a counterproductive obstruction by LFI’s allies. “There have been failures, strategic differences within Nupes, which does not prevent us from sharing an essential fight on the merits”, regrets Arthur Delaporte, deputy Nupes. But in government, too, the debate will leave its mark. Despite a relative majority, the deputies of the majority sometimes play their own part. For its part, the National Rally plays the model opponent and even deplores the state of the debate.
