A unanimous vote. On Thursday March 14, the National Assembly adopted measures aimed at curbing “fast fashion”, including a ban on advertising for the sale of clothing at knockdown prices and a reinforced environmental “penalty” to make them less attractive. The bill, adopted at first reading, will now have to be examined by the Senate. It is supported by Horizons, one of the three groups of the presidential majority, during its day reserved for the Assembly.
The environmental angle is highlighted in the text, carried by MP Anne-Cécile Violland. “The textile industry is the most polluting, it represents 10% of greenhouse gas emissions”she stressed, also mentioning water pollution. Despite reservations, the bill received the support of all groups in the chamber. This text will make France “the first country in the world to legislate to limit the excesses of ultra fast fashion“, greeted the Minister of Ecological Transition, Christophe Béchu in the hemicycle.
