Doctors will now offer alleged victims of nightclub injections to take samples. In the event of a complaint, the results may be requisitioned by the courts.

The CHRU of Nancy is launching a rapid protocol to help victims of injections or drugged without their knowledge in a nightclub, what is called chemical submission, reports France Bleu Sud Lorraine on Monday May 16. Since the reopening of nightclubs in mid-February, dozens of people all over France have complained after noticing bites on their bodies during parties.

The problem is that the substances that these bites may contain disappear quickly. Same for drugs diluted in glasses, like GHB, which disappears in a few hours. This is why when a person who thinks he has been drugged without his knowledge comes to the Nancy emergency room, the doctor can now offer him samples even before filing a complaint.
“If the context is suggestive of a chemical submission, we will offer her to take these samples by explaining the process to her and then it is up to her to make her way”, explains Doctor Emmanuel Puskarczik, head of the Nancy poison control center. “We will give her five days of reflection time. At the end of the five days, if she has not lodged a complaint, the samples will be destroyed”he adds.

What will become of these samples if the person has indeed filed a complaint within the allotted time? “These samples may be requisitioned by the courts and follow the path that is expected”explains Emmanuel Puskarczik, “that is to say the consultation in forensic medicine. And the exploitation to try to find the psychoactive substances possibly in question”. France Bleu specifies that the doctors of the CHRU of Nancy will also be able to support the filing of a complaint by the victim by calling the police.
