The Heritage Foundation has already received more than 110,000 euros in donations to renovate the legendary Palais Niel in Toulouse. A palace located in the Saint-Etienne district, a district that is applying for the Unesco label. It is located rue Montoulieu-Saint-Jacques, between the prefecture and the Grand Rond. This military palace was built in the 19th century, between 1863 and 1868, for Marshal of France Adolphe Niel, commander of the army in the south of France. It belongs to the Ministry of Defence.
Open to the public once a month
Toulouse residents have been able to see its exterior facade for 150 years, but the palace is only open to the public on the occasion of Heritage Days. This could change at the start of the school year, after restoration of facades explains Bernard Cassagnet, regional delegate of the heritage foundation:
The Heritage Foundation needs a total of 1 million 200,000 euros for the restoration of facades. The palace should open with an entrance through the Grand Rond and the garden be accessible to the public. The palace is currently occupied by the 11th Parachute Brigade.
