The 13 Hours of Discovery on Friday June 16 is dedicated to the most beautiful lake in the world, the mythical Loch Ness, in Scotland, whose legend dates back to the Middle Ages. The monster that would live in the murky and icy waters of the lake fascinates and attracts thousands of visitors every year.
Never has a lake aroused so much mystery and dread. Between the hills of the highlands of Scotland, make no mistake. If they sometimes take on heavenly airs in the spring, the waters of Loch Ness are always muddy and icy. Beware of those who venture there unless accompanied by Captain Alistair Matheson. His boat, “Deep Scan”, is named after the largest search operation for a monster in the lake, 36 years ago. Equipped with a sonar, it announces the depth, 226 meters. “If a monster or something really big went under our boat, it would be a really big speck the size of my fingernail. In my whole career, it’s happened to me three times“, says the captain who runs Deep Scan Cruises.
More than 1,100 testimonials listed
On board, the passengers are variously impressed. “I’m fine, I don’t believe that’s true. Because this monster is supposed to look like a dinosaur, but they all disappeared“, said a young girl. “I film everything. Then I’ll watch the pictures again, and maybe I’ll see something strange come out of the water.“says a man. Loch Ness has always been associated with stories of monsters. In the 16th century, Saint Columban, an Irish monk, is said to have saved one of his disciples there from the attack of a sea monster.
From the 1930s, testimonials multiplied in the newspapers, sometimes supported by photo montages. The curious then rush to the shores of the lake, in the hope of seeing and capturing the strange animal. Since then, more than 1,100 testimonies have been officially recorded.
