After disastrous harvests in 2022, mustard seed is back, and production can regain its cruising speed. Mustard makers, on the other hand, have great difficulty finding staff. Report in Côte-d’Or.

Victim of a shortage in 2022, mustard seed is now in sufficient stock. “We are still in a much more comfortable situation than last year”, comments Luc Vandermaesen, Managing Director of Reine de Dijon. To ensure its transformation, its factory in Fleurey-sur-Ouche (Côte-d’Or) is struggling to recruit. 15 jobs are to be filled, mainly line operators and maintenance agents.

Delivery times are getting longer

The company, which has 160 employees, specializes in the manufacture of mustard and cold sauces of condiments. Despite the rising cost of energy and raw materials, the mustard industry is growing. Due to a lack of staff, delivery times for customers are getting longer. The factory will soon open its doors in an attempt to attract future candidates. The practice had proven itself in Couchey (Côte-d’Or), at another mustard manufacturer.
