In Vienne, the municipality of Vernon has found a solution to teach its children to swim: install a mobile and removable swimming pool near a school! Report on the spot

It all starts with small exercises, under the watchful eye of the educational advisor. To fight against drowning among children, the municipality of Vernon (Vienne) has invested in a mobile pool until next September. Since June 15, kindergarten and primary school students have been learning to swim. “We worked on three fundamentals of swimming, namely immersion, (…) impulse from the edge of the pool, (…) and there they are trying to move on their backs”explains Audrey Hugonaud-Fayolle, educational advisor.

The children, in groups of six, succeeded in overcoming their fear of water. “I was a little scared that the water would get into my body, but as soon as I got in the water I knew it wouldn’t fit, so I wasn’t scared”, confides a young learner. The ten by five meter ephemeral pool is located very close to the school. A solution for rural communities, often too far from municipal swimming pools. The investment cost the city of Vernon 25,000 euros.
