A seaside town in Morbihan calls for help. This summer, it goes from 2,000 to 30,000 inhabitants but there is only one general practitioner. The city is therefore desperately looking for a doctor.
Tourists arrive gradually. There are 13 campsites in Damgan (Morbihan) and 74% second homes. At the height of summer, the population will therefore be multiplied by 15. However, the city has only one doctor. “A doctor alone cannot do it, he has to rest, there is secretarial work to do”commented a resident. The pharmacist thus expects an influx of customers this summer. Doctors in the area are already in great demand, so the municipality has launched a communication campaign to find reinforcements.
A nursing home will soon be built
One argument works in favor of Damgan: it is about the emergence of a multidisciplinary health center in a former school which will soon see the light of day. “We know that doctors now only work in multi-professional medical centers, so we, the town hall, do everything to have suitable premises”explains Jean-Marie Labesse, mayor of Damgan. For nurses, having only one doctor already has repercussions on care.
