“It’s a matter of safety!” Opposed to the ZFE in his city, Dominique Gambier, mayor of Déville-lès-Rouen, attacks these areas by talking about road safety. At the level of the Dieppe road, a sign “Low Emissions Zone” has been installed but the traffic plan prevents Crit’Air 4 and 5 vehicles from turning around. There is therefore no possible fallback. “We had a fatal accident there a few years ago,” explains Dominique Gambier. “The motorist wanted to turn around, it’s very dangerous.”
With elected officials, the decision was therefore made to cover the panels with garbage bags. On the bags, we can read: “ZFE Danger Here”. A panel was covered on the road to Dieppe, two other panels were also targeted by elected municipal officials at the intersection of rue Jules Ferry and CD 51, and in the descent of the road to Duclair.
1000 inhabitants affected
For Mirella Deloignon, first deputy mayor, this ZFE will penalize the inhabitants. In Déville-lès-Rouen, there are nearly “a thousand” motorists who can no longer cross these areas. “These residents, inhabitants will no longer be able to go to work for some”explains the first assistant. “Not everyone can afford a less polluting vehicle.”
The mayor of the city is worried because he “notes that many motorists have decided not to respect the ZFE”. “We are going to think about the legal follow-up to be given, but we need a return to common sense. The agglomeration must listen to us.”
