The mullet cut has fueled all hair debates, and does not seem to have ended … Popularized in the 80s, is it coming back in fashion?
Mocked by some and claimed by others, the mullet cut leaves no one indifferent. Iconic cut of the 80s, it has become vintage and unconventional, and more recently, glamor. It was the singer Rod Stewart who wore it first, from the early 70s. It was then the rock hairstyle par excellence, adopted by David Bowie or Kim Wilde. It is “something that goes beyond the genre and is just a cut that can go to anyone“, analysis Baptiste Cleret, lecturer in marketing at the University of Rouen (Seine-Maritime).
All the stars then got involved, from footballers to tennis players, like André Agassi. Then times change: it becomes dated, mocked and a bit old-fashioned. But there are still some nostalgic … They met in Belgium, for the mule cup championship. This year, Julian Arredi, 33, would like to win the title. In the meantime, he has fun with his best friend making videos, using the codes of the 80s.
Recently, the mullet cut, revamped by stars like Rihanna or Scarlett Johansson, is back in fashion. It is thus making its big comeback in hairdressing catalogs, but also in fashion shows.
