Bloc member Kristina Michaud from the Avignon-La Mitis-Matane-Matapedia constituency is participating for the first time in COP 26, with the Canadian delegation.
After the presence of François Legault and Justin Trudeau, it is now the turn of ministers, deputies and delegates to conclude the commitments of the conference on climate change which is taking place in Glasgow, Scotland.
Bloc Québécois MP Kristina Michaud is a member of the Canadian delegation. The representative of the riding of Avignon-La Mitis-Matane-Matapédia is one of the 270 people representing Canada.
Almost 40,000 people from all over the world attend this conference on climate change organized by the United Nations.
The young MP is attending this conference for the first time.
She affirms that her role there is above all to ensure that Canada makes concrete commitments in the fight against climate change.
“Canada has a duty to set an example. We are the fourth oil producing country so we will have to do more than other countries, ”says Kristina Michaud in an interview with TVA Nouvelles.
His days often begin with a meeting with the new federal Minister of the Environment Steven Guilbeault.
“He is fairly transparent in what he tells us about the negotiations and he seems to want to move forward,” confirms the MP.
Kristina Michaud welcomes the Prime Minister’s decision to appoint the environmentalist to this crucial post. “It’s encouraging, but every time Mr. Guilbault takes the floor, we can’t help but wonder if he turns his tongue eight times before speaking so that it is in accordance with his party, ”she comments.
Kristina Michaud affirms that the presence of deputies and representatives on the spot made it possible to denounce that Canada uses several of its places at the COP26 for members of the lobbies of fossil energy companies.
“We are saying one thing and doing the complete opposite: internationally, we are investing in stopping funding for fossil industries, but we are inviting them to our delegation!” Explains Kristina Michaud.
The MP is also committed to offset the emission of greenhouse gases from her plane trip to Glasgow by planting trees in a locality in her constituency, as she did during her last election campaigns.
“It’s our best way [avec] trees, to capture carbon, ”recalls the member.
