The famous Moulin Rouge cabaret, pressed by an animal rights association to stop using large pythons in its number, announced the end of it on Tuesday, May 9. In this daily show, a dancer dived into a transparent pool where she handled specimens of this protected snake species.

The direction of the famous hall in the Pigalle district “announces the definitive cessation of the number with the snakes as of this day, Tuesday May 9, 2023, and thus anticipates its commitment”, she wrote in a brief press release. Quoted last Friday in an article by Parisian (article reserved for subscribers)she then indicated that “the presentation of the animals on stage will be[it] stopped from 2024”.

This decision comes on the eve of a new demonstration planned by Paris Animals Zoopolis (PAZ) in front of the cabaret. This animal protection association intended to denounce a “business on the backs of animals” and was considering “to file a complaint for animal abuse”. “It’s a historic step forward, the Moulin Rouge is a well-known cabaret for Parisian evenings”reacted Amandine Sanvisens, the co-founder of PAZ, for whom this announcement “goes in the right direction of the decline in animal captivity in France”.
