Edouard Meckert is an organic pioneer in Alsace. In 1970, he gave up his job as an oenologist to take over the family mill with his wife, which had been owned for 9 generations.

The Mill of the Monks is built on the very site of a 13th century mill founded by Cistercian monks, in the heart of the Alsatian countryside, on the banks of the Zorn river.

The Cistercian monks were recognized for their advanced agricultural techniques and the perfect knowledge they had of their cultures, teaching agriculture to spread their science, and remained on the Moulin des Moines site until the French Revolution.

The Meckert spouses let themselves be guided by their convictions, giving the mill a 100% organic orientation. Nothing was easy, nothing was difficult, but everything had to be built.

Today, the mill of the monks offers more than 1500 references of organic food products (cereals, flours, biscuits, chocolates, confectionery, dried fruits, etc.) to surf on new trends, offer new products, perpetuate traditions and continue to give meaning to organic. The Moulin des Moines is one of the first to process cereals from organic farming. It is also part of a coherent approach to environmental protection: perfectly autonomous, it produces its own energy thanks to the turbine powered by the Zorn river and its photovoltaic installations.

In addition, selective sorting of waste, composting and the feeding of many animal species, including a deer farm, contribute to the recycling and recovery of cereal waste from the mill.

A pioneer in organic food for more than 30 years, the Moulin des Moines perpetuates the tradition of artisanal know-how through its local specialties made from spelled and small spelled.
