Keren Schem, Mia Shem’s mother, is in Paris. The 21-year-old Franco-Israeli has been hostage by Hamas since October 7, while she participated in a music festival not far from the Gaza Strip. His mother spoke in front of several deputies in the National Assembly on Wednesday, November 8. Keren, trembling, held up a photo in front of the deputies: “That’s my daughter, Mia.” “Hamas published this video and you see that she is suffering, that she is suffering a lot. On October 7 I called her again and again. The phone rang for 5 hours but there was never an answer “, she says.

“I don’t know if she’s alive or dead, continues Keren, and there are 241 other hostages in Gaza. Where exactly are they keeping them? My family is a survivor of the Shoah and I have the impression that we are experiencing the same thing again today. It is a crime against humanity. I wouldn’t wish any mother in the world to be in my position.” she says.

“We must tirelessly talk about them”

The President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, takes her turn to speak. “We must tirelessly talk about them, think about them and demand their release. When there are victims of terrorism, obviously we must all be united to face and show solidarity.” The president of the lower house then returns to the controversy surrounding her trip to Tel Aviv at the end of October.

“This was the meaning of our visit to Israel. It was, as you know, particularly criticized when it was a question of laying a hand on friends who were suffering in all humanity, in all fraternity. ” Yaël Braun Pivet calls once again to join the great civic march against anti-Semitism, this Sunday in Paris, but also to demand the immediate release of the hostages.
