the Montreal Gazette will draw a line under its Monday paper edition from October 17th. The daily evokes the change in the news consumption habits of its readers to justify its decision.
Editorial vice president Gerry Nott made the announcement midday Wednesday in a note to readers on the newspaper’s website. “This decision reflects the rapidly changing news consumption habits of our readers, the needs of our advertisers, and the escalating cost of printing and delivering a printed product,” he explained.
The Monday edition will continue to be published but only in digital version, on the website of the Montreal Gazette. ” [On] will publish the same stories, photos, features and feature articles that you are used to in the print format,” says Nott, specifying that this will have no impact on current subscription rates.
“The news is there 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and our commitment to you is to deliver it to you quickly, honestly and thoroughly, as readers’ consumption habits continue to change,” he said. -he adds.
The Postmedia press group, which owns the Montreal Gazettewill also remove the Monday print editions of its newspapers in Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver.
