The Montreal Children’s Hospital is preparing to welcome Ukrainian cancer patients who have fled the war and who need to continue their treatment. The foundation of the hospital center launched a fundraising campaign on Wednesday to collect donations to pay for housing costs for families, meals, medication, psychological support and translation services.
The Montreal Children’s Hospital does not yet know how many patients it will treat and if they all require oncology care. “As it is a context of armed conflict, the hospital must deal with some uncertainty in this project,” explains information officer Christine Bouthillier.
Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation spokesperson, hockey player PK Subban, will participate in the fundraising campaign. For each donation collected, it will match the bet.
Other Canadian health facilities may be welcoming Ukrainian children in the coming weeks. At the Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services, it was indicated on Tuesday that “work is in progress on this subject”. The Sainte-Justine university hospital center (CHU) said it offered “its full collaboration”.
SickKids Children’s Hospital in Toronto announced on Tuesday that it will soon be welcoming two Ukrainian children suffering from cancer and requiring oncology treatment.
