The Montpellier SPA full to bursting with dogs to adopt

The Montpellier SPA is full to bursting. Between the pound and the shelter, there is more than 700 dogs without families, This is unheard of ! Adoptions are down and with the end of telecommuting, abandonments have increased. There is no more room to accommodate new animals. There are not enough volunteers to properly care for those who are already at the shelter.

“Last year, for the same period, we had 90 dogs to go out and now we have 170. Every day, there is a lack of volunteers. We cannot take all the dogs out every day. Last year , we didn’t see that at all” deplores Dominique Ramadier, volunteer of the SPA of Montpellier.

“Dogs ready to be adopted are stuck at the pound because there is no room at the shelter to accommodate them” — Dominique Ramadier, volunteer at the Montpellier SPA

At the shelter, the dogs are crowded together three or four in small cages. Others appear only in photos on small posters. For lack of space to accommodate them, explains Dominique Ramadier: “We have such an overcrowding on the side of the shelter, that they are still at the pound. While they have been neutered, they are ready for adoption.”

With adoptions down, these animals are unlikely to find a family: “If we want them to have a chance of being adopted. It’s not a little poster on a wall that will make people fall in love.”

Call for adoptions, volunteers and donations

More than ever, the Montpellier SPA needs support alert the volunteer. “We are calling for adoptions. As well as donations because having so many dogs costs a lot of money. And also additional volunteers to walk these dogs.”

There are so many dogs at La SPA de Montpellier that it is no longer able to accommodate new ones. If you want to adopt one, the shelter is open every afternoon of the week from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Lieu Dit, Rue du Carré du Roi in Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone. You can also make a donation directly on the SPA website.
