The president of MoDem François Bayrou assures Thursday February 8 on franceinfo that his party remains “full member of the majority that wants to rebuild the country”. “The MoDem has a responsibility, like the majority”added the Béarnais elected official who repeated that his party was a member of the majority “to correct or cure the extreme difficulties we encounter”.

“The country needs more political understanding of what is happening at the grassroots and less managerial technocracy”, he explained. Asked about a possible regret regarding his support for Emmanuel Macron since 2017, François Bayrou responded “Never”. “Imagine what we would have encountered if Emmanuel Macron had not been elected and if this new landscape that we are experiencing had not been created”he says. “I will not allow a certain number of abuses based on ignorance of what the French experience at the grassroots”he repeated.

“The country needs more political understanding”

“There is the feeling that certain sensibilities of the majority occupy the space”he slipped, evoking a “political imbalance” of the executive. “There is a drift, the time has come to put things right, to remember why we are here”, he added. With around fifty deputies, the centrist party plays a certain role in the majority, which is only relative. “I am trying to refocus and reorient the policy followed in the way we address the country”justified the boss of the centrist party. “My support cannot be bargained for”declared Emmanuel Macron’s historic ally.

According to him, French policy is reaching “a point of serious concern if not to say no return” concerning “the way we address the country”. For the mayor of Pau, “the country needs more political understanding of what is happening at the grassroots and less managerial technocracy”.
