The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made reports against the lawyer Juan Branco, accused of having disclosed the identity of French people working in Senegal, says the Quai d’Orsay to the international editorial staff of Radio France, confirming information from Europe 1.
During a press conference on June 22, Juan Branco, lawyer for Senegalese political opponent Ousmane Sonko, sentenced to two years in prison for “youth corruption”, denounced crimes against the humanity in Senegal and pointed the finger at several officials.
He specifically mentions two French officials working in Senegal whom he accuses of being responsible for crimes against humanity. Juan Branco also published on the Internet a document addressed to the International Criminal Court and in which he quotes seven French people, including the two officials mentioned during the press conference. For one of them, he provides the registration number, his email addresses and a telephone number.
The Quai d’Orsay condemns, Juan Branco maintains his accusations
The Quai d’Orsay evokes “serious and unfounded accusations“. He assures that he will take “all necessary measures to ensure the protection and respect of the integrity” the French. “Wherever the integrity of agents is threatened or attacked on the occasion or because of their function, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs grants them functional protection“, he specifies.
“In view of the actions of Juan Branco“, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also claims to have”made the necessary reports to the competent authorities“to whom he”belongs to assess the follow-up to be given“.
On Twitter, Juan Branco is indignant and maintains his accusations.
“The facts that we revealed showed the implication of French agents in the organization and the execution of the repression implemented by the mode of Macky Sall against democratic demonstrators, having made 60 deaths, as well as thousands of detained and wounded”, he wrote. Juan Branco also assures that he “will not give in to any intimidation“.
