For several days, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, the new Minister of Education, has been at the heart of a controversy and has been trying to put an end to a crisis that continues to grow. Monday January 15 in the morning, during a trip, she defended herself, once again, on the comments she made last Friday. “I think we need to close this chapter, personal attacks and personal life“, she said.
Unions that no longer have confidence
A revelation from the newspaper “Libération” reignites the controversy. The minister’s son would have only spent a few months in a public establishment. Her former teacher also denies the absenteeism mentioned by Amélie Oudéa-Castéra. The opposition denounces a lie and demands the resignation of the minister. On the union side, trust is broken. “We demanded a public apology (…). The profession has been deeply damaged since this weekend.”, assures Guislaine David, co-general secretary and spokesperson for the SNUipp-FSU union. Several teachers’ unions have called a strike on February 1.
