It’s a “unusual situation“but Eric Dupond-Moretti”has the right to the presumption of innocence“, affirmed the Prime Minister on France Inter, Monday November 6. It “has all my confidence“, she clarified.

From 2 p.m. Monday, and for 10 days, the current Minister of Justice, Eric Dupond-Moretti, appeared before the Court of Justice of the Republic (CJR), accused of conflicts of interest in the context of his functions. Eric Dupond-Moretti, “serene“and who has”haste” to explain himself according to those around him, should have the floor for an opening statement at the end of the afternoon. His interrogation is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

The Prime Minister recognizes that this is an “unusual situation”, but again mentions the “presumption of innocence”. The head of the executive also maintains that the Minister of Justice “does a great job“. Élisabeth Borne explains precisely how the government “organized so that it can both ensure its defense and at the same time that the ministry continues to operate“. She denies having been against this organization: “My wish has always been that the Minister of Justice can both ensure his defense and that we organize ourselves so that the Ministry of Justice can turn“, she says.

The CJR is the only one authorized to judge members of the government for acts committed in the exercise of their functions, must open at the Paris courthouse. If he is found guilty of “illegal taking of interests”, the minister faces five years of imprisonment, a fine of 500,000 euros, as well as an additional penalty of ineligibility and prohibition from holding public office.
