In Corrèze, the Millevaches plateau, preserved from light pollution, has been awarded the label “starry sky reserve”. It is thus possible to observe a quality sky.

In Corrèze, the Millevaches plateau is ideal for tourists seeking tranquillity. The unspoiled expanse is located away from city lights, allowing for star gazing in the sky. The Millevaches plateau is classified as a dark sky reserve, it is one of 19 labeled sites in the world. “To be a dark sky reserve, you have to be free of light pollution, which is almost the case here”describes Violette Janet-Wioland, project manager at the Regional Natural Park of the Plateau de Millevaches (Corrèze).

The communes of the plateau have invested in LEDs and from 10 p.m., the lights go out in the streets. “We just kept a few bright spots, which are said to be safe, especially at crossroads”details Philippe Brugère, mayor of Meymac (Corrèze). On the set, the dark night helps preserve biodiversity. The biological rhythm of fauna and flora is not impacted by a light barrier.
