“Istanbul is a leading culinary destination […] that we want to promote to all gourmets,” said Poullennec during a press conference.

The teams of inspectors of the emblematic red guide are already in town, he announced, without specifying the number, nor that of the establishments visited and which will possibly be awarded.

The restaurants tested will be able to win the prestigious one, two or three stars which reward excellent cuisine, or the Bib Gourmand awarded to good little tables.

The first selection of Istanbul restaurants will be presented on October 11.

Michelin’s interest in the megalopolis on the Bosphorus “will accompany (the) efforts to establish the city on the world stage of gastronomy”, welcomed the Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy.

Turkish gastronomy, known worldwide for its doner kebabs, is far from being limited to its grilled meats and offers a great diversity, from appetizers (mezzes) to desserts.

Created in 1900 by the brothers André and Édouard Michelin for motorists, the eponymous guide is a reference for food lovers around the world.

Outside of France, the Michelin guide covers a range of cities and countries, ranging from New York to Dubai.
