The Metz – Guingamp meeting, counting for the 8th day of Ligue 2, was stopped for almost half an hour on Monday, September 12, when the two teams were sent back to the locker room by the referee of the meeting, Pierre Gaillouste , at the hour of play. The refereeing body considered that its safety was no longer assured during the intrusion of a supporter, while the Messins had just been reduced to eight after a third red card. The meeting was interrupted at 3-3, score already acquired before halftime. Play resumed at 10:30 p.m.

Everything went wrong in the 58th minute, when a spectator burst onto the lawn to confront the referee, as confirmed by Guingamp coach Stéphane Dumont to BeIN Sports. A few seconds earlier, the local club lost a third player, Danley Jean-Jacques, excluded for a killer tackle.

The atmosphere was already seriously tense in the first period when Kiki Kouyaté, for a fault and words exchanged with the referee (30th), then the goalkeeper Alexandre Oukidja for an outing deemed poorly controlled (45th + 2), had were sent back to the locker room.

FC Metz had however started the match ideally by leading 3-1 after a quarter of an hour of play. But the two penalties whistled by Mr. Gaillouste in favor of the visitors and the rather severe expulsion against Oukidja provoked the ire of the Messin public. Security had to be reinforced at halftime of the match to supervise the kop of the Moselle supporters.

The meeting ended without new incidents, and with a great success for the EAG (3-6), thanks to three superb goals scored after the game resumed on long shots. Guingamp climbs to 6th place, two points ahead of his victim of the evening.
