In Beaujolais (Rhône), many residents would have seen a meteorite that crashed somewhere in the city. Research is underway.

Kilometers of surface to survey, nothing to discourage enthusiasts, members of astronomy club for many who came to hunt for meteorites. The goal is to find pebbles weighing around 100 grams, a treasure that is four billion years old. “The object we are going to look for is this kind of stone with a very dark and above all very fine fusion crust on the outside”, details Éric Bouchez, president of the Jupiter astronomy club.

The thoroughness in the research is impressive. To find this kind of stones, you also need to be endowed with unfailing patience. These volunteers, who have come to survey the forest, know something about it. The mission should last until the arrival of spring. “It is in the scientific interest, it is to be able to find a stone which comes from elsewhere. It is not easy, I think we will come back several times to find it”, says Mathilde Sylvestre, member of the Lyon-Ampère astronomy club.
