A few weeks ago, Gabriel Attal was traveling to a college in Île-de-France, where some students confused him with the Prime Minister. A premonitory scene for the ambitious man, who today takes over from Élisabeth Borne. Promoted to Minister of National Education five months ago, he spent only a short time in his post, which he wanted to occupy with firmness. “At some point, tolerance is fine, kindness is fine“, he declared in particular to the Assembly. The minister was on the ground and in action to carry out reforms.
A meteoric rise
Often referred to as the “Baby Macron”, he attended the Ecole Alsacienne, an elitist private Parisian establishment. From a very young age, like Emmanuel Macron, he practiced theater. He then studied at Sciences Po Paris, and was quickly attracted to politics. Gabriel Attal cut his teeth in the Socialist Party, then at the Ministry of Health with Marisol Touraine.
In 2016, he was one of the first to join Emmanuel Macron and became a deputy at the age of 28, then a member of the government at the age of 29, as Secretary of State for Youth. He was then appointed spokesperson for the Castex government, then moved to Bercy as minister of public accounts. At 34, he became the youngest Prime Minister of the Fifth Republic.
