The Mercantour National Park is ready for summer

For the Mercantour National Park, the summer of 2022 should mark the return to normal after two seasons marked by covid and the destruction caused by storm Alex. The program and the state of the park were presented at a press conference this Thursday, June 23.

On reconstruction first, most of the trails are accessible. Since last year emergency works have been carried out. Some deviations still exist on certain sections. There are still 2 years of work to return to a completely normal situation. Most of the remaining work is work to consolidate the work carried out urgently. The funding for the reconstruction comes from the various institutions, EU, State, Region, Department, but also, and this is new for the park, funds from sponsorship.

With regard to drought, the situation in the Park is worrying as in the rest of the department. Additional measures will be taken to combat the event. For the moment, there is no question of seeing the park partially closed as is sometimes the case in other massifs in the event of a fire risk. The usual instructions are reinforced to avoid an excessive human impact on the fauna and flora.

And then in terms of tourism, the Park is about to experience a busy season, with an audience of neophytes. Prevention operations are therefore multiplied throughout the park.
