A team from France Télévisions met a 98-year-old English veteran who has been living in France, in Eure, for more than 30 years. The latter was able to approach the sovereign Elizabeth II on several occasions.

David Mylcher is 98 years old. The English veteran, resident of Neaufles-Auvergny (Eure), landed in Arromanches (Calvados) on June 12, 1944. Captain, he participated in the main battles of the Battle of Normandy. On learning of the death of Queen Elizabeth II, he collapsed. He liked her very much. “She’s a beautiful woman, and I think everyone is very sad today. [d’avoir] lost a wise, kind woman”he said.

David Mylchreest has met the Queen five times. The first time was at a fancy ball, when she was still only a princess. She had granted him a waltz. Then it was the horses that brought them together. As a young soldier, he took care of the thoroughbreds of the Queen and the Princess Royal. He then settled in Eure 31 years ago. His road and that of the queen have crossed several times since, during official ceremonies.
