The Rimouski Océanic will host the Memorial Cup tournament in 2025.

This was announced by the independent committee of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) on Monday.

The Bas-Saint-Laurent organization was preferred to that of the Shawinigan Cataractes. This will be the second time that the Océanic has hosted the prestigious competition. The last time was in 2009.

“We are absolutely delighted to return to Quebec, and to the city of Rimouski, for the 105e edition of the Memorial Cup,” CHL President Dan MacKenzie said in a statement.

“I would like to express my gratitude for the work and time devoted by our selection committee, which had to analyze two strong applications. I would like to thank the Shawinigan Cataractes for presenting an exceptional application and making the committee’s decision extremely difficult. On behalf of the CHL, we look forward to working alongside the Océanic organization and the city of Rimouski to organize a memorable event in 2025.”

The tournament was last played on the territory of a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team in 2022, when the Saint John Sea Dogs received this honor. The Remparts de Québec, in 2015, were the last to organize the competition on Quebec soil.
