During the presidential election, Emmanuel Macron had promised measures by the summer. The price shield on gas and electricity and the rebate on fuel should be extended.
In view of the legislative elections, Emmanuel Macron wants to accelerate on purchasing power. Several measures would be presented to the Council of Ministers after June 19. “This text has already been worked on, prepared and it will be presented in the wake of the legislative elections so that it can be adopted very quickly”, explains government spokesman Gabriel Attal. The president wishes to respond to the soaring prices of energy, food and the decline in the purchasing power of retirees.
The tariff shield, that is to say the freezing of the price of gas and the increase of 4% maximum in electricity, would be maintained until December. On fuel, the 18 cents per liter discount would continue, but could be reserved for those who use their cars the most to get to work. For pensions, indexation to inflation would be provided from July 1.
