(La Prairie) The newborn of a woman who gave birth alone in her vehicle Thursday evening in La Prairie, in Montérégie, did not survive. The alleged mother of the baby would have called the emergency services herself for help, indicates the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

The municipal police department reportedly intervened after the 38-year-old woman called emergency services while parked on the edge of rue des Ardennes, La Prairie. The cause of the newborn’s death is currently unknown.
“The autopsy on the baby will confirm the exact cause of death,” said SQ sergeant Stéphane Tremblay.
During the night from Thursday to Friday, the Sûreté du Québec was entrusted with an investigation initiated by the Roussillon intermunicipal police board concerning the death of the newborn.
The SQ Major Crimes Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death. When her condition allows it, the alleged mother will be met by the investigators.
When a child under the age of six dies, the cause and circumstances are automatically investigated with the Major Crimes Department.
