The Montreal institution announced the news on Tuesday. Suzanne Sauvage is stepping down after 12 years at the helm of the museum. She will remain in office until November to allow the board of directors to recruit a new person to take over the management of the establishment.
“It is with great emotion that I make this decision,” said Suzanne Sauvage in a press release.
Mme Sauvage joined the McCord Stewart Museum in March 2010, after having held numerous management positions within the Cossette Communication Group, including that of President of Cossette Canada. According to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Museum, Ghislain Picard, the institution has undergone a significant evolution under his leadership, in its programming as in its collections, “attracting a diversified, rejuvenated and increasingly numerous public”.
“She was able to transform the McCord Stewart Museum from one of Montreal’s best-kept secrets to one of the most important and dynamic museums in Quebec,” says Ghislain Picard.
In June 2022, Suzanne Sauvage was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada. She also received the National Order of Quebec in May 2021.
