New Russian strikes hit Mykolaiv (Ukraine), Friday, March 18. A team from France Télévisions was only a few kilometers from the barracks, now devastated. “A loud bang woke us up, all over town. It was 6 o’clock in the morning and yet our hotel was located at the extreme opposite of the site which was targeted. The walls and the windows shook, that tells you the power of this impact”, says journalist Stéphanie Perez, special correspondent in Ukraine.
The journalist had an appointment a few hours later with the mayor of Mykolaiv. The city lost a third of its inhabitants. In 2015, Oleksandr Syenkych became Ukraine’s youngest mayor, aged just 33. This former pro-European businessman is today the leader of the resistance.
