“We are all truly shocked by what happened, by the incredible violence of some drivers, by the murderous madness,” denounced Richard Galy, mayor of Mougins, on France Bleu Azur on Wednesday August 28, two days after the death of a 54-year-old police officer following a refusal to comply on the A8 motorway.
The mayor pays tribute to the memory of Warrant Officer Éric Comyn, “killed by the madness of a man who was probably drunk”. The 39-year-old man suspected of having hit the police officer head-on on the evening of Monday, August 26, has in fact tested positive for alcohol, according to the prosecution. Richard Galy says he observes “a kind of trivialization of the refusal to comply” of which “the consequences are terrible”. He therefore invites us to “urgently amend the law” in order to make “the sanctions much stronger and more dissuasive”.
A tribute to Éric Comyn will be organized on Wednesday August 28 at 9 a.m. in Mougins, “on the forecourt of the municipal police island, avenue de Tournamy”The mayor of the Alpes-Maritimes commune will hold a “short speech” and invites residents to participate in this “ceremony which will be very sober“For Richard Galy, it is a question of paying tribute to both the 54-year-old policeman killed on Monday, but also to all “law enforcement and firefighters who are sometimes also targeted by this type of behavior”The elected official also points out that a kitty intended for the family of Éric Comyn has been created on the website of the Fondation Maison de la Gendarmerie.
