The mayor of Fromentières prohibits traffic in the town center to non-residents

It is an unusual decree taken by Christian Livenais, the mayor of Fromentières: he prohibits traffic in the town center to all vehicles… except residents ! Since the beginning of work on the RN 162, closed in both directions of traffic between Villiers-Charlemagne and Fromentières, cars but also heavy goods vehicles want to join the municipal voice which is parallel to the national one. A real problem for the Mayor, who notes the formation of holes in the pavement and the degradation of the aisles.

Significant damage

“We have observed a transfer of national road traffic to this municipal road which is not at all adapted to the intensity of traffic, on the one hand, and then to the loads. On the other hand, because maintenance is much too important. And then, when these municipal roads are damaged, in the immediate future, we do not have the means to restore them”, explains Christian Livenais.

The decree was also taken for the residents of the town center. A relief for Gaylor who lives next to the church: “In the evening, from 6 p.m., there were a hundred cars. People were passing by to park, it was complicated to get home. There would still be light vehicles, of course, but there were trucks, tractors and transporters. Suffice to say that the decree is good and we are calmer.”

Several signs prohibiting traffic to non-residents have been placed in the town center. The by-law is posted there.

Despite a decrease in traffic, Christian Livenais notes that these bans are sometimes hindered by vehicles that do not live in the center of Fromentières. He called on the gendarmes to reinforce the controls. “We want to make users understand that the idea, is to protect our municipal roads !”
